CANCELLED—this event was rescheduled as a virtual talk by Ros Holmes.

Sun Yuan and Peng Yu’s Civilization Pillar—a 12-foot tall pillar composed in part of human fat—raises complex questions about bioethics, materiality, consumption, and the idea of ‘civilization.’

Join Dr. Brian Callender, Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Chicago, and Dr. Ros Holmes, Presidential Fellow in Chinese Art at the University of Manchester, for an intimate gallery conversation reflecting on the visceral experience of Civilization Pillar and its meaning as a monument to contemporary culture.

Light refreshments will be served after the program.

FREE, open to all.
