Following the latest guidance related to the coronavirus (COVID-19), the Smart Museum of Art and Wrightwood 659 are suspending The Allure of Matter public programs through March 30. We will continue to monitor the situation and may postpone further programs as the situation develops. Check for updates from the Smart Museum and Wrightwood 659.

This hands-on workshop delves into the mysteries of one of Earth’s most elemental materials: fire.

The program begins with a tour of the special exhibition The Allure of Matter and in-gallery drawing exercises based around gunpowder and ash paintings by Cai Guo-Qiang and Zhang Huan. Then, the artmaking continues in the sculpture garden where participants can draw with fire itself and its byproducts, ash and charcoal.

Plus, there will be fire-roasted treats!
