With special guest Jamie Lou Thome

Master bookbinder and artist Jamie Lou Thome leads this bookmaking workshop inspired by artist Xu Bing’s Tobacco Project.

The evening starts with a tour of The Allure of Matter at the Smart Museum of Art, with a focus on a series of works by Xu Bing that use tobacco as both a material and subject. Then, Thome will lead a hands-on bookmaking activity using real tobacco leaves, bookbinding needles and thread, and a small letterpress. At the end of the night, participants can take home their own handmade book to add to their personal libraries!

FREE. Space and materials may be limited. Open to participants of all skill levels. Please register in advance.
