The Allure of Coloring is a way to experience The Allure of Matter: Material Art from China from the comfort of your living room.

This week’s coloring page features Cai Guo-Qiang’s gunpowder painting, Mountain Range.

The coloring sheet was drawn by artist and museum educator Erik L. Peterson. “If ever there was a coloring page to color outside the lines, this is it,” says Erik. “The original artwork  was made by lighting fireworks on paper and letting the randomness of their explosions ‘draw’ the drawing. That said, for all of you adults out there this is also a great opportunity to exercise your precision coloring skills to illustrate the marks originally made by fireworks that I’ve sketched here.”
