The Allure of Coloring is a way to experience The Allure of Matter: Material Art from China from the comfort of your living room.

This week’s coloring page features a work by Song Dong, who has repeatedly used water as a signature material in his practice.

The coloring sheet was drawn by artist and museum educator Erik L. Peterson. “Song Dong’s Traceless Stele is a giant honed stone that stands above a small font of water, upon which rest a set of calligraphy brushes of various sizes. The stone is blank, but comes alive with the drawings and words of visitors who use the brushes and paint with water,” says Erik. “I wanted to mimic the experience of Traceless Stele in this coloring page. Use a black pen to draw a drawing coming out of the brush, and then color in your own creation!”
